Marketing terms, defined plainly.

No jargon without context. Every definition here comes from the work we do installing the Marketing OS for B2B founders.

Marketing Maturity

Marketing maturity describes how developed a business's marketing capability is, from ad hoc activity through to a measured, repeatable system. Understanding your current stage clarifies what to fix next, because the right move depends on where you actually are rather than on best practice in general.

Marketing maturity matters because advice is stage-dependent, and most of what founders read is written for companies several stages ahead. A business with no positioning and no tracking does not need attribution modeling, it needs the basics. Knowing your stage prevents you buying sophisticated solutions to problems you do not have yet.

Example:

A business without reliable conversion tracking cannot benefit from advanced attribution. The prior stage has to be solved before the next one produces value.

Why does marketing maturity matter?

The right next move depends on your current stage. Advanced tactics produce little value when foundational elements like positioning and tracking are missing.

How do you assess marketing maturity?

By checking whether foundations exist in sequence: clear positioning, reliable tracking, a repeatable acquisition process, then measurement sophistication.
